Scams : Investigative Journalism or Marketing

A brand new scam surfaces. Rs. 10.67 lakh crore Coal scam. (On the heels of 2G, CWG, Adarsh scams).

I sometimes wonder what is more sensational..the scams or the way they are 'unearthed' 'projected' and presented. Did the authorities that are held responsible for the costly decisions understood their enormity and planned to be benefited to the full extent? I get a feeling, probably not. I am not saying that theauthorities are innocent, but that they probably did not plan so audaciously and extravagantly as it turns out to be in the audits.

What I wonder more is had the authorities planned for it legally and using the financial models used in the audits would it have benefited the govt more or harmed the economy more! In other words i am saying that probably Indian telecom scenario including the subscribers has been benefited more than the govt has been hurt. In any case, even if the money had reached the govt exchequer, it would have been wasted in some other way.

I also wonder whether the biggest beneficiary of these scams being unearthed is media, media and only media!

May be we all know. May be not!
